Oldest horseradish brand in the world

Johann Wilhelm Schamel founded a wholesale business with horseradish root in Baiersdorf, Franconia, in 1846. And he started the tradition of collecting recipes and knowledgerelating to all aspects of horseradish and passing them on as a family secret.
But grating the powerful miracle root was a time-consuming and tearful process for the customer. So Johann Jakob Schamel first had the idea of offering ready-to-eat horseradish back in 1914.

More and more customers soon began to appreciate the good Schamel horseradish as a flavourful taste experience and healthy accompaniment to any dish. Schamel quickly became the most sold horseradish brand in Germany. The Schamel family still freshly grind the hand-picked horseradish root daily in the traditional horseradish town of Baiersdorf to this day and use it to produce original Schamel fine horseradish delicacies according to the tried-and-tested recipes.

LONGEVITY AND FRESHNESS

Our products are vacuum-packed and therefore have a shelf life of severalmonths. Once open, we recommend storing the productsin a cool place and consuming them within four weeks.

The horseradish cultivation

Horseradish cultivation as a special culture is stillextremely labour-intensive up until the annual harvest inlate autumn and involves many manual steps.

The Schamel contracted farmers

For our original Bavarian horseradish, weonly use horseradish roots from Bavariancontracted farmers. Some of the horseradish farmers in Franconiahave been supplying use for over 50years.

We grind only the best roots freshon a daily basis and mix them gently with fineingredients and exquisite spices using the cold method to protect the aroma.
