In February 2020, Team Schamel athlete Anni ran through six of the Canary Islands in eleven days, conquering 9,000 meters of elevation gain over a total distance of 350 kilometers. A few months later, the GR20 Corsica followed in just five days. Now it´s time for a new ultra project: the Alpe-Adria-Adventure 2021.
The name says it all: Anni Johann will run from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea from June 10 to 24. The route follows the well-known Alpe-Adria long-distance hiking trail, which leads through Austria, Slovenia and Italy on 43 stages. In order to cover the 700 km long route within two weeks, an average of three stages needs to be finished every day, meaning 47 km and over 2,000 meters of elevation gain each day.
For Anni, the project is not only a physical and mental challenge, but also a project close to her heart. The 31-year-old would like to use the media attention to inspire others to donate for a good cause. For the past three years she has been volunteering as a computer course teacher at Lebenshilfe Erlangen. “Since moving to Munich I can unfortunately no longer hold the courses, but I still feel very connected to the people. The Alpe Adria Adventure charity project gives me the opportunity to support the students remotely and to enable an urgent hardware modernization. I'm really happy about that and I am sure this will give me an extra boost of motivation in difficult moments along the way from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea”, Anni explains.

Annika "Anni" Johann is a newcomer in ultra trail running. Having her roots in mountaineering and climbing, the 31-year-old marketing manager found direct entry into ultra running in 2019. She signed up for five trail races in Southeast Asia in her first year, won the Bandung Ultra 60k and got 2nd in the Cm6 105k and the Vietnam Jungle 55k ultra marathon. Anni joined the Schamel Team in December 2019. During the 2020 pandemic year she completed a multi-day fast-packing tour across the Canary Islands and finished the GR20 long-distance hiking trail on Corsica in just 5 days. Anni has her strengths on extremely long distances over several days, covered with countless vertical meters and highly technical terrain.
We are simply overwhelmed! We would like to express a particularly big thank you to all hosts, who already confirmed to donate an overnight stay for Anni. Besides not being able to receive guests for month due to the pandemic regulations, so many of the requested accommodations decided to donate.
And as if that were not enough, we are amazed by the friendliness and enthusiasm that we encountered. Many hosts replied full of enthusiasm and do everything possible to give Anni the best possible recovery between the stages. Many thanks to all hosts below.
